History
One could say that coal miners built the city of Louisville. In 1877 when the Welch Mine opened in Louisville, local landowner Louis Nawatny platted his land and named the soon-to-be town for himself. The Town of Louisville was incorporated in 1882. The Miners Memorial Statue in front of City Hall symbolizes these early settlers to Louisville.
